    Description

    TWO African Makishi Tribal Dancers from Zambia Zimbabwe Masquerade Doll Souvenirs.  The taller one stands 9-1/4" and the shorter one is 8-1/4."  Both approx. 4-1/2" wide.  Made of thin plastic, wire, paint and burlap.
    Condition is "Used".  These 2 dolls show signs of wear especially around the shoes, hands and headdress.  They have difficulty standing on their own, so they'll have to be perched against something.  They probably had held something in their hands at one time but they are missing.  Look at the pics before purchasing since there are no returns.
    Dolls representing the Makishi. Makishi (singular Likishi) are masked dancers, spirits of deceased ancestors. The Makishi Masquerade is performed by the Luvale, Chokwe and Mbunda people that live in Zimbabwe and Zambia, which takes place at the end of the mukanda, an initiation and circumcision ritual that young boys of between 8 and 12 years attend.
