Description

A beautiful katydid grasshopper design flows around this vintage lavender finished "Martele" line vase by the Phoenix Glass co. Long blades of grass overlap where the insects are resting.
Phoenix Glass Co. is located in Monaca, PA. Phoenix began production of art glass in 1932 when 45 to 50 molds from the Consolidated Glass Co. were moved to Phoenix and used until early 1936. This occurred because Consolidated Glass Co. had been forced to shut down due to the Great Depression.
This particular vase has a beautiful semi-translucent lilac purple color with some clear transparent zones. The glass pattern design is attributed to Phoenix/Consolidated. The tapered vase is heavy with a thick glass wall. Four casting seam lines can be seen. The opening up top measures 4 7/8 inches in diameter and the vase stands 8 3/8 inches tall.
This piece is in wonderful vintage condition but does have some minor flaws, loss of lavender color and factory imperfections. There is a few flea bites to the inner glass rim of the opening. At the bottom, there is a line in the glass that cannot be felt and does not go through to the inner layer. There is also an area near the top that used to have a sticker or label and a ghost shape is present. Please see photos for condition and below for more measurements.
