    This item for sale is a beautifully handcrafted Neck Rest. Luba. Neck rests are often  viewed as important status symbols. Used mostly by men but also by women in some cultures, they are hand carved and used to keep the head lifted up while sleeping. Each rest is specially made for its owner and the size is determined by the distance of the shoulder to the neck. They tend to be light, durable and easy to carry.
    The Kingdom of Luba located in central Africa thrived from the 15th to 19th century and was the first state in the Congo . Ironworking and trade along the Lualaba river permitted the Luba elite to form a kingdom in what is today southern DR Congo
