East African Carved Ebony Head

Description

This auction is for one (1) carved ebony head that my parents purchased in Kenya in 1987.
The head appears to be that of a Maasai male.  I was told the wood was ebony and from information found on the web, this piece of wood is ebony (which is not dark all the way through to the bark).  In addition, the wood is from a straight branch or the trunk of a small tree.
This carving shows some cracks in the base wood, which I remember were present when I received this December 1987.  The actual head appears to have been slightly darkened because the nose and lips show some original lighter wood beneath the dark color. Based on the amount of light wood in the round portion of the carving, it appears that the nose and lips were carved from the lighter wood that rings the inner ebony-colored wood.  There is a light-colored mark right of the face in Image 1; I found no other obvious damage from display or manufacture. The crack on the left side of the head (Image 2) was present when I received the head as a gift; it could have been in the original piece of wood and just not filled in with black dye or paint.
This piece is heavy and solid; consequently I cannot combine shipping costs to reduce the chance of breaking other included items during shipping.
Thanks for reading about my auction.
