This is a fantastic Authentic Songye Kifwebe African Tribal Mask. This one is circa 1940’s. “Kifwebe” means “mask that chases away.” The face is striated and used in context of the Bwadi Bwa Kifwebe secret society. The dancers display different demeanors and they put on a full headpiece with raffia and feathers, yarn, burlap, etc. as well as a body costume with mask. This one still has old raffia tied in holes of mask to depict a beard and also there is a woven hood attached to mask in back! Incised all over with rounded eyelids, slit eyes, triangular long nose, and shows protruding square mouth. Condition is "Used". Some scratches, cracks in wood but a wonderful find. From private collection. See other fantastic Songye masks from seller. Discounts buying more than one piece. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
