Description

Offered for sale is a beautiful antique glass PLATE, made by the Consolidated Glass Company. It is part of the company's Martelé (pronounced mar-te-LAY) line, intended to resemble the fine glass of Rene Lalique. The raised-relief pattern has a smooth satin finish, and shows a dozen dancing nudes. Some dance solo, some are in pairs, some play musical instruments. Flower garlands and mist-like drapes flow around the dancers, preserving their (minimal) modesty and keeping the images suggestive rather than crossing the line to pornographic. The images are pressed on the back side of the plate; the front surface is glossy and smooth. This pattern was made from 1926 to 1939.
The plate measures 8 3/8 inches (21.3cm) in diameter. A U.S. quarter is shown in the third picture, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance.
Plate is in perfect condition. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or repairs, and no cloudiness or discoloration. One spot on the rim shows where the molten glass pushed together in the mold, leaving a tiny crease (picture 7= from the front, picture 8 = from the back). Such flaws are common in handmade glass of this era; and are not the result of damage.
